The Ard-Dioplóma sa Ghaeilge Fheidhmeach is a two-year part-time program designed for graduates in non-Irish disciplines who wish to pursue Irish studies at level 8. Degree Overview:

The Ard-Dioplóma sa Ghaeilge Fheidhmeach is a two-year part-time program designed for students who have already earned an honors degree in a discipline other than Irish but wish to pursue Irish as an academic subject at level 8.


Objectives:

Upon completion of the program, students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate a high standard of Irish in both spoken and written form (B2 level on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).
  • Explain and demonstrate the basic concepts of phonetics.
  • Discuss the history of traditional and contemporary media.
  • Conduct critical analysis of literary texts.
  • Present academic discourse in written form in Irish.

Year 1:

  • Cruinneas na Gaeilge 1 (Accuracy of Irish 1)
  • An Prós Comhaimseartha (Contemporary Prose)
  • Stair na Meán Gaeilge (History of Irish Media)
  • Uirlisí an Aistriúcháin agus na Téarmaíochta (Tools of Translation and Terminology)
  • An Scríbhneoireacht Acadúil (Academic Writing)

Year 2:

  • Cruinneas na Gaeilge 2 (Accuracy of Irish 2)
  • Na hEalaíona Traidisiúnta (Traditional Arts)
  • Litríocht Chomhaimseartha na Gaeilge 1 (Contemporary Irish Literature 1)
  • Litríocht Chomhaimseartha na Gaeilge 2 (Contemporary Irish Literature 2)

Structure:

The program is delivered part-time over two years and utilizes blended learning. It is taught on a modular basis, allowing students to tailor their schedule and workload to their circumstances. Module content is provided online weekly. Tutors provide support and feedback through monthly workshops on campus and online via email and discussion forums. In the first and second years, language classes are held at University locations and other designated centers nationwide, depending on demand.
