Program Overview

The Level 7 Extended Scope Focused Ultrasound module (7RD510) enhances ultrasound skills for health professionals with existing focused ultrasound experience. Through distance learning, students develop advanced scanning abilities, assess the impact of expanded ultrasound on clinical practice, and build a portfolio for expanding ultrasound provision in their workplace. The module requires prerequisites, supervised training, and support from a clinical mentor and academic supervisor.

• Builds upon existing focused ultrasound experience.
• Extends specialist skills to provide enhanced ultrasound service in the student's clinical area.
• Involves working closely with a service-based mentor and an academic supervisor.
• Allows students to review their own learning needs and build a portfolio of evidence demonstrating the rationale for expanding ultrasound provision within their workplace.
• Assesses the impact of expanded ultrasound provision on clinical practice for the benefit of service users, practitioners, and the clinical unit.
• Includes 200 total learning hours, a mix of self-directed learning, tutorial support, and supervised scanning practice.

• Prerequisites:
• Completion of the Principles of Medical Ultrasound and FSUP 1 modules (or an equivalent qualification).
• Requirements:
• Access to supervised training sessions throughout the module.
• Access to a Clinical Mentor with the necessary skills and experience to assess final competence in the student's specialist area.
• Completion of a practice-based agreement.
