Program Overview
This comprehensive non-computing graduate program equips students with essential IT skills in programming, databases, security, project management, and computer networking. It emphasizes real-world problem-solving, fostering analytical and problem-solving abilities. Graduates are well-prepared for careers in IT consulting, management, systems development, and various other roles within industries that heavily utilize technology.
Program Outline
It covers a wide range of topics including programming, databases, security, project management, and computer networking, giving you both the underpinning theory and the ability to apply it to complex real-world problems.
- Develop your analytical, evaluative, and problem-solving skills in relation to IT-based solutions. British Computer Society Code of Conduct and Data Protection).
- Benefit from valuable experience of working on projects for real businesses, opening up new career opportunities in management, supervision, or as a practitioner (e.g. database/IT developer or system designer/analyst) in industries which make substantial use of computers and information technology.
Assessment:
Your assessment will be varied and wide-ranging including worksheets, practical problem-solving tasks, case studies, presentations, written reports, and viva-voce (voice) examinations. You may also undertake formative (non-credit bearing) assessments prior to the final assessments. This is designed to allow you to develop your skills and to take account of the feedback provided and will help you to better understand the material delivered during the course. To aid curriculum and assessment design, the University uses the FHEQ credit level descriptors as points of reference for determining progression in terms of level of demand and complexity and the degree of learner autonomy involved in specific learning opportunities (Quality Handbook Chapter 1 section 1.3.3).
Teaching:
The course is taught by Dr Wei Huang, who joined the University of Bedfordshire in November 2004 as a Lecturer (permanent position) and then became a Senior Lecturer in January 2007 and a Principal Lecturer in August 2012. He is an academic member of the Institute of Research for Applicable Computing (IRAC) in the School of Computer Science and Technology.
Careers:
As a graduate of this course, you could progress on to a career as an IT consultant; manager; systems developer and/or programming supervisor within industries which make substantial use of computer and information technology.
- 100% of our Construction and Engineering students are in employment or further study 15 months after graduation (HESA Graduate Outcomes, 2023).
- There are six entry points through the year, allowing you to start when it is most suitable.
