Integrated Language Arts Additional Licensure Preparation
Program Overview
It includes courses in literature, writing, and an internship. Upon completion, participants are eligible to apply for Ohio licensure and may pursue potential careers in education and English language teaching.
Program Outline
The program equips students with the skills and knowledge needed to teach English Language Arts in grades 7-12, while also providing them with the opportunity to explore new teaching methods and gain valuable experience in the classroom. This non-degree program cannot be used for students seeking initial licensure. This program does not culminate in a master's degree. Students interested in a master's degree at Kent State must be fully admitted into and complete the requirements for the master's program, in addition to courses that are prescribed here for additional licensure.

The program requires a total of 7 credit hours. The courses are:
- ADED 53315 TEACHING LITERATURE IN THE SECONDARY SCHOOLS (3 credit hours)
- CI 67312 TEACHING WRITING AS A PROCESS (3 credit hours)

Other:
- The program is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).
- Students seeking Ohio licensure are required to pass the OAE Content Knowledge Assessment for each teaching field in order to apply for licensure.
- This program is designed to prepare students to sit for applicable licensure or certification in Ohio.
