Architecture is the conceptualisation and design of built forms in response to social, economic, environmental and technological needs. The Architecture extended major prepares you for postgraduate studies by introducing a range of technologies and production methods that encourage you to imagine different design outcomes and to create drawings, models and prototypes. You'll also make investigations into design communication, sustainable design and relevant historical, theoretical and ethical aspects of architecture.

  • Career Pathways: The Architecture extended major provides a range of employment opportunities, including architecture (with further study), urban design (with further study), architectural drafting, architectural education/academia (with further study) or government policy.
  • You could work in architectural and urban design practice, city and regional planning, government agencies, higher education, property development and architectural illustration and modelling. The MArch is accredited by the Architects' Boards in each state and territory and is recognised by a number of international accreditation bodies. Completion of an Architecture major to a high enough standard can also lead to further studies in Urban Design (master's, graduate diploma or graduate certificate), Building Information Modelling (master's or graduate diploma), Master of Landscape Architecture (requires additional conversion units), or a Graduate Certificate in Architectural Conservation.
