Program Overview


The Bachelor of Education (Primary) (Honours) prepares graduates for teaching in Pre-primary to Year 6. Through hands-on professional placement starting from the first semester and instruction by experienced lecturers, the program equips students with the skills, knowledge, and experiences to create supportive learning environments and foster children's learning. Graduates are eligible for teacher registration in Western Australia and beyond, opening up career opportunities in education and related fields.

Degree Overview:

This distinctive undergraduate teaching degree prepares you to be a teacher from Pre-primary to Year 6 and gives you the skills and knowledge to be classroom and profession-ready.


Objectives:

  • Equip students with the knowledge, skills, and experience to graduate ready for the classroom, and for the profession.
  • Teach students how to create safe, inclusive, engaging and supportive learning environments.
  • Provide hands-on learning with over 100 days of professional placement in primary schools, starting from the first semester.

Description:

The Bachelor of Education (Primary) (Honours) equips students with the knowledge, skills, and experience to graduate ready for the classroom, and for the profession. Students will develop their knowledge and understanding of how children learn and the implications for teaching, and how to create safe, inclusive, engaging and supportive learning environments. The program features hands-on learning with over 100 days of professional placement in primary schools, starting from the first semester.


Assessment:

  • Students are required to pass the National Literacy and Numeracy Test (LANTITE) as well as a Teaching Performance Assessment (TPA).
  • In the final semester, students complete an honours project that is linked to their specialisation and which can be completed as either a formal dissertation or an action research project.

Teaching:

  • Students are taught by inspiring and innovative lecturers.
  • The program features both classroom and experience-based learning.
  • Students are given experiences in schools across a diverse range of settings.

Careers:

  • Teaching in government and non-government schools in WA and Australia.
  • It’s a portable qualification that can be used for teaching positions overseas.
  • Graduates are eligible to register with TRBWA and this entitles them to be legally employed as a teacher.
  • This program is available for students enrolled in UWA’s Bachelor of Education (Primary) (Honours) program and provides the opportunity for paid work alongside a dedicated mentor teacher.
  • The program is available for Experience-based entry.

Entry Requirements:

To be considered for admission to this course an applicant must have— (a) achieved an ATAR of at least 75, or equivalent as recognised by UWA; or (b) an assured pathway offer; or (c) a place in a relevant UWA access program
