This German Studies program caters to all levels, from beginners to advanced speakers. Students will gain proficiency in the German language, explore German history and culture, and understand Germany's impact on various fields. The program offers flexible streams, allowing students to tailor their studies based on their language skill level.

Program Outline

While becoming fluent in the German language, you will also explore centuries of German history and culture, contemporary film and media, as well as Germany’s profound impact on the sciences, music and philosophy, both in Europe and around the world. Social history and culture are studied from the many centuries of the German literary tradition – prose, poetry and drama, music, film and advertising.

This major is available in three streams, catering from beginner to intermediate to advanced speakers. It is possible to combine German Studies with a second major from within Arts, Biomedical Science, Commerce or Science.

European language graduates are well qualified for careers in the diplomatic services, teaching and training, interpreting and translating, as well as a range of careers in travel, hospitality, publishing, theatre, commerce, manufacturing, law and international relations. Knowledge of a foreign language is particularly helpful for career prospects in international banking, journalism and communications, medical areas, music and the arts. Employment opportunities are also found in the public sector.

Students studying in Crawley are not required to complete GRMN2812 German Studies 12 as Bridging unit is level 2 core unit.
