The Sport Science major at the University of Western Australia is designed to prepare students for successful careers in the sport and recreation industries. Description:
The Sport Science major is a three-year (BSci) or four-year (BPhil (Hons)) program. It is available as a full-time or part-time program. The program includes a work-integrated learning program that provides students with valuable workplace experience. Students can choose to complete their placement in WA (at no cost) or overseas (at the student’s expense).
Careers:
Graduates of the Sport Science major will have the choice of three distinct career paths:
- Sports promotion, management, and marketing sector: This pathway involves working in the broader sports industry, including roles in marketing, event management, and administration.
- Athlete preparation as an Exercise Scientist: This pathway involves working with athletes to improve their performance and prevent injuries.
- Graduate training in sport, recreation management, coaching, exercise rehabilitation, occupational safety and health or research: This pathway involves pursuing further studies in a specialized area of sport science.

- The program is accredited with Exercise and Sport Science Australia (ESSA).
- The program is ranked 20th in the world for sports-related subjects (QS 2024).
- The program includes practical experience with industry partnerships in sport (AFL, WAFL, Western Force) and health (clinic and hospital placements).
- The program is available in Semester 1 and Semester 2.
- The program has a weekly contact time of 20-30 hours teaching time plus your own study time.
- The program is offered as a degree-specific, or first, major for the Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Philosophy degrees. It is also offered as a second major in other bachelor's degrees.
