The Ontario Certificate in Pre-Service Firefighter is a comprehensive program that provides students with the knowledge and skills required for a career in firefighting. Through a combination of theoretical and practical courses, graduates gain proficiency in fire prevention, suppression, rescue operations, and emergency patient care. The program aligns with industry standards and prepares students for certification as firefighters. Graduates may find employment opportunities in municipal fire departments, private fire services, and other related fields.

Degree Overview:

The Ontario Certificate program provides students with the knowledge and skills in scientific principles of Education and Fire Prevention in the Community, Fire Behaviour, Fire Ground Operations, Firefighter Emergency Patient Care, Environmental Protection and Rescue Operations as well as Introduction to the Fire Service.


Program Highlights:

  • The Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) recognizes graduates of the Pre-Service Firefighter program as candidates for employment in the CAF.
  • St. Clair College works with 8 Municipal Fire Service Partners.
  • Local Live Fire Training Centre.
  • All faculty and support staff are current (or retired) Firefighters.

  • Students may choose to complete these requirements prior to the start of the program:
