Program Overview
The Nursing degree program at St. Clair College, in partnership with the University of Windsor, prepares students to provide nursing care in various settings. This four-year program features a blend of classroom learning, experiential labs, and clinical practicums, leading to eligibility for the NCLEX-RN exam. Upon graduation, nurses have ample opportunities in hospitals, private practices, and other healthcare facilities due to the ongoing nursing shortage. Students should note that this is an oversubscribed program with specific requirements and responsibilities, including travel costs, uniforms, and placement schedules.
Program Outline
Degree Overview:
The Nursing degree program is designed to prepare students to provide nursing care in a variety of settings. Graduates will work within the scope of nursing practice and in accordance with the regulations of the College of Nurses of Ontario. Nursing students will be able to care for individual clients or groups, including family members and significant others. Students will make clinical decisions and exercise judgement in giving care to clients. Graduates will be eligible to write the National Council Licensure Examination - Registered Nurse (NCLEX - RN) to achieve professional status of Registered Nurse in Canada.

Careers:
The current nursing shortage has resulted in numerous opportunities for graduates in a variety of health care settings: private homes, private practice, long-term care facilities, community health care agencies, hospitals and physicians’ offices.
Other:
- The College of Nurses of Ontario Registration Regulations requires them to examine and possibly refuse/restrict registration of nurses with the following:
- Any convictions of a criminal offence or an offence under the Narcotic Control Act or the Food and Drug Act:
- A physical or mental condition/disorder that makes it desirable in the public interest that he/ she not practice:
- Lack of Canadian citizenship, permanent residence or lack of authorization under the immigration act to practice nursing.
- Applicants whose native language is not English MUST take an English Proficiency test - contact the College for details.
- This is an OVERSUBSCRIBED program.
- Students are responsible for their own travel and costs to placements.
- Students are responsible for the cost of scrub uniforms/footwear and equipment (such as a stethoscope, a watch with a second hand) and other incidentals as required.
- Placement schedules may include shifts on days, afternoons, weekends and holidays throughout the program based on placement need and agency availability.
- St. Clair College has partnered with Synergy Gateway Inc to provide students access to Verified - a platform that is used by other post-secondary institutions across Ontario for the purpose of digitally collecting placement requirements related to placement(s).
- Most of the placement sites are requiring students to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 to be eligible to attend.
- Student placements are assigned.
- Windsor students may be placed anywhere in Windsor and Essex county.
- Chatham students may be placed anywhere in Chatham and Kent county.
- Simulation Technology is used in the program.
