The PG Dip and PG Cert in Legal Technology are vocational courses designed to further your skills in the diverse and fast-moving area of technologies affecting the legal sector. The courses focus specifically on developing an in-depth knowledge of Legal Technology and how the legal landscape is being changed by technology.


Structure:

  • Award-linked module: Artificial Intelligence and Blockchain in Law
  • Elective modules:
  • PG Dip students choose three modules.
  • PG Cert students choose one module.
  • Elective modules include:
  • Corporate Governance and Disruptive Technology
  • Cyberlaws (The Laws of Data and Digital Assets)
  • Technoethics in Law
  • The Internet of Things

Online Study:

  • Legal Technology Online is available starting September 2024 or February 2025.
  • Covers the same content as the on-campus version.
  • Offers the same high level of professional lecturer support.
  • Allows students to study when and where they want, over a variety of different course lengths.

Assessment:

  • Modules are assessed by a three-hour unseen written examination or a 4,500-word coursework assignment.
  • The default campus location for online study is London.

Teaching:

  • Taught by a combination of former and current practitioners, as well as research and teaching academics who are focused on legal practice, not just theory.

Careers:

  • 95% of postgraduate students in employment were in highly skilled employment 15 months after graduating (2020/21 Graduate Outcomes data).
  • The University offers support with job applications and other work experience opportunities as soon as students accept their place.
  • The University has a Career Finder tool to help students find a career that suits them.

Other:

  • The award-linked module (Artificial Intelligence and Blockchain in Law) will consider how disruptive technologies are bringing about a fundamental shift in decision-making and shaping a new normal in legal practice operations.
  • The module will look at the two key technologies facilitating this change: artificial intelligence and blockchain.
  • This module will allow students to get hands-on with the technology, exploring how it works as well as the legal and regulatory issues its use presents.
  • In addition to a general induction to the program, there is a two-week induction covering the Key Principles of the English Legal System.
  • This is compulsory for students with a non-law background.
