Degree Overview:
This program is an intensive 1-year program leading to an Ontario College Graduate Certificate. It is designed for internationally trained students who have a foundation in mental health from their pre-registration healthcare disciplines. The program focuses on:
- Current issues and trends in mental health in Canada: This includes exploring the Canadian context and understanding the unique challenges and opportunities in mental health care.
- Best practices in nursing and other health-care professions: The program emphasizes evidence-based practices and explores how different healthcare professionals collaborate to provide optimal care for clients with diverse mental health disorders.
- Legal and ethical aspects of mental health-care: Students will learn about the legal framework surrounding mental health care and the ethical considerations involved in providing care.
Highlights:
- Access to Co-Curricular Record program: This program allows students to gain recognition for their engagement in leadership and co-curricular activities outside of the classroom.
- Experiential learning with standardized patients: Students will have opportunities to practice their skills in a simulated environment with standardized patients.
- Gentle Persuasive Approach certificate: Students will earn a certificate focused on caring for individuals with dementia and other cognitive diseases.
