Trent's Media Studies program is designed to give students a thorough understanding of the culture behind the media we consume, focusing on media's impact on society. This hands-on program combines courses in the arts and sciences, offering opportunities to examine the influence of advertising and ideology, the political economy of media corporations, the foundations of media arts, and the ecological impact of media technologies. Practical experience is a key part of this degree, with workshop courses in various areas such as game design, music production, podcasting, and photography. Students can also pursue an Accelerated Masters in Cultural Studies within a year of graduating from their honours B.A.

This program offers a co-op stream, allowing students to gain 12 months of paid work experience through three full-time work terms. Students can work with local news media, marketing agencies, or various arts, entertainment, business, or culture organizations. The program also offers opportunities to put learning into practice through workshops, internships, and community-based research courses, working with media professionals from organizations such as Artspace, Global TV, Trent Radio, ReFrame Film Festival, and the Royal Academy of Dance. Students can also build their portfolio with both new and old media by composing music, coding video games, writing blogs, or editing films. The program also makes use of new technology like 3D printing and virtual reality in Trent's Critical Making Studio.
