Degree Overview:

The Master's in Professional Studies with the Art History Concentration is a part-time or full-time program offering courses in museum studies and art history. The program covers topics like museum management, care and handling of objects, museum education, development and grant writing, marketing and public relations for cultural institutions, history and theory of exhibition design, and curatorial vision. It also includes specialized art history courses in areas like the art and architecture of the ancient Mediterranean world, the Medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque, U.S. art and architecture, non-western, and modern and contemporary art and theory. Students with backgrounds in history, philosophy, anthropology, English, studio art, and art education are encouraged to apply.


Teaching:

Most courses are offered in the evenings on campus. Some courses are offered online or partially online. The program includes a recommended internship that provides real-world experience. Internships must be planned with and approved by the art history concentration director.


Other:

Students must plan their program of study in collaboration with the art history concentration director. The university offers three galleries, providing additional learning opportunities. A short video is available to learn why students choose the art history concentration.
