Program Overview
The Nursing program offers a Bachelor of Science degree for students pursuing a career in nursing, either as traditional students or through degree completion options for associate degree nurses. Graduates demonstrate expertise in providing patient-centered care, promoting well-being, and utilizing technology and communication skills to improve healthcare outcomes. The program emphasizes collaboration, critical thinking, and a commitment to lifelong learning.

Degree Overview:
The Department of Nursing offers coursework leading to a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree with a major in nursing for traditional students through a basic/pre-licensure option and for students in associate degree nursing programs through two degree completion options.
Objectives:
Upon completion of the Nursing program, the graduate will:
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide and manage effective patient-centered nursing care of the individual, community, or population as a member of the interprofessional team.
- Incorporate psycho-social-cultural knowledge and sensitivity in the care of the individual, community, or population.
- Promote a culture of caring in diverse settings for the individual, community, or population.
- Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives in a variety of health-care settings.
- Assist all clients who are experiencing stress to move towards adaptation through the use of evidence-based nursing practice.
- Evaluate the impact of socio-economic, ethical, legal, and political factors on health care delivery and professional nursing practice as it relates to the individual, family, community, or population.
- Use communication, leadership and collaborative skills in the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care for the individual, family, community, or population.
- Demonstrate clinical reasoning, management, and evaluation skills in the development and delivery of patient-centered care for multiple clients with complex needs.
- Implement holistic, patient-centered care across the life span that reflects an understanding of the sciences, nursing, and the humanities.
- Integrate professional values and a commitment to lifelong learning into one’s professional practice.
Other:
- The basic/pre-licensure nursing major is for students who do not have a previous nursing degree or who have a bachelor’s degree in a discipline other than nursing.
- The curriculum includes courses in the liberal arts, the sciences, and nursing.
- The basic/pre-licensure nursing major is offered in Towson, MD, and Hagerstown, MD.
- The nursing degree completion options include the Registered Nurse-to-Bachelor of Science (RN to B.S.) option and the Associate-to-Bachelor’s (ATB) option.
- Degree completion options offer an innovative and flexible curriculum that meets the needs of a diverse nursing community.
