Program Overview
This introductory jewelry-making course teaches the basics of designing and crafting unique pieces. Students learn techniques for generating ideas, forming and texturing metals, and simple stone setting. Materials are provided for practice, while students may bring their own precious metals and stones for advanced projects. Upon completion, students may submit their portfolio for assessment for 10 HE credits.

Outline:
- This course will introduce you to the process of designing and making your own jewellery, including generating design ideas, forming, shaping and texturing metals, and also simple stone setting.
- You will be guided to produce your own individual design ideas using experimental methods guided by demonstrations.
- Materials will be provided to learn the techniques and complete the project. If you wish to work in precious metals and stones these are expected to be purchased separately. The materials supplied are brass and copper and basic tools are supplied too.

This class will guide you through the craft of designing and producing beautiful bespoke pieces from cutting and forming metal, adding textures and decorative features and how to make simple earrings and bangles through to a final project.
