Program Overview
This falls prevention program provides a comprehensive understanding of the causes and management of falls in healthcare settings. Participants will learn the principles of patient assessment, home hazards modification, and the multidisciplinary approach to falls prevention. The program includes online and face-to-face teaching, homework tasks, and practical assessments, delivered by specialists in the field.

Assessment:
- Students will be given a range of homework tasks throughout the learning weeks and will contribute to online fora in which they will be expected to discuss progress and innovative practice in their area.
- Students should expect to study at home for several hours each week in between their study days in order to support their learning.
- Students will be expected to perform a falls analysis over time in their workplace.
- The online multiple choice exam will assess your learning.
Teaching:
- Teaching will be both online and face to face, with lead lectures delivered by specialists in the field.
- You will be supported throughout by the module leader and the wider university support networks including library services and study skills staff.
- You will apply your knowledge to practice and undertake a practical assessment of your clinical environment, assessing it for risk of patient falls.
Other:
- Delivered in partnership with BCUHB.
- Prof. Anil Mane (Care of the Elderly Consultant) who designed this programme
- Specialists in the field will deliver key lectures and the multidisciplinary approach to falls prevention will be spotlighted.
- The only entry requirement is that you have a passion for reducing risk of patient falls in your clinical working environments.
