Degree Overview:
This BA (Hons) Fine Art with Digital Photography degree allows students to develop their skills in traditional art techniques like drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, and textiles, while incorporating digital and lens-based art. The course emphasizes the importance of digital skills for future career opportunities and encourages students to embrace new technologies.

Outline:
Year One:
- Workshop 1 – Digital Drawing & Investigation: Students will learn digital skills, including Illustrator, Photoshop, and video/sound editing, to enhance their studio practice.
- Projects 1 – Approaches to Drawing and Investigation: This module introduces Fine Art studio projects, developing working methods that will be applied throughout the course. It encourages students to develop ideas through practice and gain a deeper understanding of techniques and skills.
- Contextual 1 – Forms Analysis Contexts: This module emphasizes the importance of direct experience and analysis in understanding visual arts as cultural practice. It introduces students to various art forms, genres, and contexts through lectures, gallery visits, and seminars.
- Workshop 2 – Materials and Methodologies: Students will develop their skills in paint, print, sculpture, or textiles, either specializing or combining techniques. This module focuses on honing making and technical skills with a chosen material and process.
- Projects 2 – Process and Experimentation: This module encourages an experimental approach to project work, with an emphasis on self-direction. Students are free to develop their own ideas, directions, and material practices.
- Materials and Evidence: Optional, this module is intended for those who need to catch up on credits.
- Production Design: Optional, this module provides a foundation in Production Design, covering concept initiation to realization, art direction, set design, and building techniques.
- Research and Process: Optional, this module aims to deepen students' understanding of contemporary art practice and develop their research skills.
Year Three:
- Degree Show – Recognition & Consolidation – Studio 3a – Digital Photography: This module focuses on a substantial self-initiated project leading to a public exhibition (the Degree Show). Students develop a distinctive visual language and articulate their artistic vision.
- Manifesto 1: Optional, this module encourages critically engaged study of key artists, theories, and ideas that influence students' studio work.
- Advanced Digital Photography: Optional, this module provides in-depth knowledge of digital image capture, construction, and manipulation within professional photography.
Teaching:
- Instruction is provided through lectures, seminars, studio-based peer-group critiques, and individual tutorials.
- Teaching is delivered by practicing artists who exhibit their work and contribute to contemporary art discourse.
- Guest professional artists provide lectures and tutorials on their work and career experiences.
