This programme is for learners who have a basic understanding and ability in the use of Te Reo Māori and have a genuine desire to communicate with little support in familiar everyday contexts and in Māori environments where they feel comfortable. You will:

  • Learn basic Māori vocabulary and grammatical structures.
  • Be able to express basic connections to the land, environment and people of the area.
  • Apply technical knowledge of foundation-level reo Māori.

  • Course Schedule: Part-time for 1 year (32 teaching weeks).
  • The maximum time to complete this programme part-time is 2 years.
  • Modules:
  • 672.208 Mana Tangata 2 (Kōrero mōna ake me āna mahi) (15 credits):
  • Tauira will use Te Reo Māori vocabulary and grammatical structures at a foundation level as an expression of mana tangata.
  • 672.209 Mana Whenua 2 (Whakamāramatia ngā kōrero me ngā mahi a tētahi atu) (15 credits): Tauira will use foundation-level Reo Māori to express connections to the land, the environment, prominent people of the areas, as an expression of mana whenua.
  • 672.210 Mana Reo 2 (Tuhituhi korero mōna ake me ana mahi) (15 credits): Tauira will apply technical knowledge of foundation level Reo Māori in selected contexts and develop an emerging respect for Te Reo as an expression of mana reo.
  • 672.211 Mana Ao Turoa 2 (Pānui i ngā tuhinga kōrero mō tētahi atu) (15 credits): Tauira will use foundation level Te Reo Māori to achieve tasks in specified contexts as an expression of mana ao turoa.
