The Sports Media Certificate is designed to provide fundamental knowledge and skills for developing and managing communications within and surrounding the amateur, collegiate and professional sports industries. It is open to students in any journalism concentration. Courses are primarily taken in the junior and senior years.

The Sports Media Certificate requires a minimum of 12 credit hours:
- Required Courses:
- JMC 488 Laboratory in Media Production (3 hours): This course is a prerequisite for JMC 540 and students with previous video production experience may be allowed to enroll with instructor permission.
- JMC 540 Sports, Media and Society (3 hours):
- JMC 585 Multimedia Sports Journalism (3 hours):
- Elective Courses (3 hours):
- Students must choose one elective course from the following list in the Department of Health, Sport and Exercise Sciences:
