About Program
Program Overview
This Level 7 Specialist Assessor course equips individuals with the skills to conduct Exam Access Arrangements in line with JCQ requirements. Through a combination of face-to-face sessions and portfolio work, students learn test theory, assessment selection, scoring, and paperwork completion. Upon completion, they gain 20 Master's credits and qualify to support learners with reasonable adjustments during exams.
Program Outline
Outline:
- The course is designed to provide a formal Level 7 qualification covering the skills necessary to become a Specialist Assessor.
- It enables individuals to carry out Exam Access Arrangements in line with JCQ requirements.
- The course runs twice per year, starting in September and February (subject to viable student numbers).
- Students attend all four sessions from their chosen block.
- Upon successful completion of this stand-alone module, students gain 20 ‘Level 7’ Master’s credits and will be qualified to carry out Exam Access Arrangements in line with STA and JCQ regulations.
- Students can use their 20 credits towards a wider Level 7 qualification; for example, the Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) MA or the Education MA.
Learning:
- Test theory, reliability, and validity; how to critically choose between tests.
- How to select and administer formal standardized tests for Exam Access Arrangements.
- How to score and interpret the results in line with JCQ requirements for Exam Access Arrangements.
- How to complete the relevant paperwork set by the JCQ in order to support external applications for reasonable adjustments.
Assessment:
- A 3,000-word academic essay critically reflecting on the Exam Access Arrangements process. Students receive guidance from their course tutor and have access to the Academic Skills Department for support.
- Portfolio of work relating to 2 different case study learners. These learners are chosen from the student's own setting in negotiation with the course leader.
Teaching:
- The course is delivered via 4 x Friday sessions face to face on Exton Park campus from 9:30am – 4:00pm.
- The sessions are delivered over a 4-5 month period with approximately one session per month to allow time for consolidation between sessions.
- Students must attend all four sessions.
