Program Overview


This Hip Hop dance course covers basic steps and variations, along with the foundations of bounce, rock, roll, and skate. Led by queer, disabled, mixed Black dance artist Majinn, the class emphasizes self-expression and confidence through movement, culminating in a cypher (freestyle circle). It runs from September 28th to November 23rd, every Thursday from 7:00PM to 8:30PM, with a cost of $276.00.

Program Outline


Outline:

  • The course will teach various foundational steps and variations in Hip Hop dance as well as the foundation of bounce, rock, roll and skate.
  • Warm ups will include some type of leg and plank exercise, warm up combinations, and connecting the movements in your body.
  • The course will focus on learning to make movements your own and help speak your voice through the movement.
  • Freestyle is a big part of the class, with students showing their authentic self.
  • Music during freestyle sections will vary.
  • Foundation portions of the class will be to various types of Hip Hop music.
  • The class will end in a cypher (freestyle circle).

  • Majinn works to help guide people in becoming more confident and connected in their bodies, find joy in their movement and be able to speak their voices primarily through Black social dance forms.
  • Majinn’s biggest goals in dance are to spread the histories of Black social dance forms in and out of academia and to give back to the communities that these art forms were created from.
