Hip Hop Foundation with Majinn

Program Overview

This Hip Hop dance course covers basic steps and variations, along with the foundations of bounce, rock, roll, and skate. Led by queer, disabled, mixed Black dance artist Majinn, the class emphasizes self-expression and confidence through movement, culminating in a cypher (freestyle circle). It runs from September 28th to November 23rd, every Thursday from 7:00PM to 8:30PM, with a cost of $276.00.

Program Outline

Outline:

• The course will teach various foundational steps and variations in Hip Hop dance as well as the foundation of bounce, rock, roll and skate.
• Warm ups will include some type of leg and plank exercise, warm up combinations, and connecting the movements in your body.
• The course will focus on learning to make movements your own and help speak your voice through the movement.
• Freestyle is a big part of the class, with students showing their authentic self.
• Music during freestyle sections will vary.
• Foundation portions of the class will be to various types of Hip Hop music.
• The class will end in a cypher (freestyle circle).

• The course runs from September 28th to November 23rd, every Thursday from 7:00PM to 8:30PM.
• The course costs $276.00.
• The class capacity is 15 students.
• The age requirement is 14+.
• The course is taught by Majinn, a queer, disabled, mixed Black dance artist and educator who utilizes their training in multiple dance forms to find and express their whole self.
• Majinn believes that to be the best dancer and person they can be they need to continuously push their own comfort zone.
• Majinn works to help guide people in becoming more confident and connected in their bodies, find joy in their movement and be able to speak their voices primarily through Black social dance forms.
• Majinn’s biggest goals in dance are to spread the histories of Black social dance forms in and out of academia and to give back to the communities that these art forms were created from.
• Majinn’s art is for them and the communities they come from, always striving to be authentically themselves in their movement and work.
