Program Overview
The Dance Intensive program at Cornish College of the Arts provides 13-18-year-olds with a comprehensive dance education. Over eight weeks, students explore composition, improvisation, and a range of dance techniques, developing a solid foundation in conceptual understanding and physical awareness. Taught by experienced faculty, the program prepares aspiring dancers for college auditions and professional careers in contemporary dance.

The Dance Intensive program runs from June 8th to August 2nd, Monday through Friday, from 9 am to 12 pm. The course costs $3,160.00. The program includes:
- Exploration of methods in composition and improvisation: Students will explore these methods through movement, writing, and discussion.
- Development of a foundation of conceptual understanding: This foundation will help students to work more deeply in the creative process curriculum.
- An array of dance techniques: These techniques include contemporary, ballet, street forms, and social dance forms.
- Experiential anatomy and conditioning: These elements will help students to develop physical awareness and enhance their work in technique courses.
- Core faculty methods: These methods will be integrated to create a foundation of conceptual understanding and physical awareness.
- Compositional practices and choreography: Students will work on these practices each morning to strengthen their skills.
- Contemporary dance: This will help students to develop the necessary skills of a professional dancer.
- Audition preparation for college programs: Fridays are dedicated to this preparation.
- Informal performance: On the fourth Friday, parents and guests will be invited to this performance.
- Up to 2 afternoon electives in any discipline: These electives are open to all students and do not require placement.

The program is taught by Cornish College of the Arts faculty, including Alia Swersky, Jimmy Shields, and Lucie Baker.
Other:
- Students should have at least 3-6 years of technical dance training.
- The program is located in Kerry Hall.
- The age requirement is 13-18 (audition required).
