Program Overview

This three-year physical education program combines university-based learning with school-based training. Students gain practical experience through modules focused on performance in various physical activities, education studies, and teaching methods. Graduates are equipped for careers in physical education teaching, coaching, and related fields, with 100% of recent graduates employed within six months of completing the course.

Year 1:

• Focus is on university-based learning, with a short secondary school placement towards the end of the year.
• Modules include:
• Performance in Physical Education: OAA, Gymnastics and Swimming
• Performance in Physical Education: Games, Dance and Athletics
• Education Studies 1: Applied Pedagogy
• Learning and Teaching Through Games, Dance and Swimming
• Learning and Teaching Through Athletics, Gymnastics and Adventurous Activities
• Physical Education Theory
• Initial School Experience

Years 2 & 3:

• A blend of school-based training and university-based learning.
• Opportunity to take NGB (National Governing Body) awards and participate in sports competitions.
• Optional water sports module.

Teaching:

• Extensive use of sports facilities at Falmer, which will be upgraded and expanded in 2024.
• Taught by experienced staff with industry connections.
• Option to take NGB awards and participate in sports competitions.
• Strong focus on practical experience.

Careers:

• Graduates can pursue careers in physical education teaching, coaching, and other related fields.
• 100% of recent graduates were in work six months after finishing the course.

Other:

• The program is taught at the Falmer campus in Brighton.
• The Falmer campus is undergoing a redesign, renovation, and upgrade.
• There are opportunities for students to play sports for fun, fitness, or in serious competition.
