Degree Overview:
This degree is one of the only specialist degrees of its kind, offering training in printmaking traditions, contemporary image-making processes like drawing, collage, photography, artists' books, letterpress, and digital image making. It emphasizes creative exploration underpinned by intellectual inquiry, leading to exciting, innovative practice. The course utilizes one of the UK’s best-equipped printmaking workshops, featuring facilities for etching, screen print, lithography, relief printing, large format digital print, letter press and bookbinding, as well as traditional wet-based photography.
Outline:
The course is divided into three years:
Year 1:
- Explores drawing in various ways, color theory, and idea development.
- Technical inductions in etching, lithography, screen, relief, Photoshop and Illustrator.
- Researching individual interests and developing professional skills.
- Planning a group exhibition and participating in a print edition project.
- Modules include: Studio Practice 1: Orientation, Studio Practice 2: Enquiry, Edition, Exhibition, Printmaking Technical Inductions, Introduction to Theories and Practices of Fine Art.
Year 2:
- Further develops work and autonomy of practice.
- Fine art exhibition with peers from other disciplines.
- Public engagement module connecting studio activities with professional environments.
