Degree Overview:
The Construction Techniques program at Conestoga College is a one-year certificate program designed to provide students with the fundamental knowledge and skills needed to pursue a career in the construction industry.
Objectives:
- Develop foundational skills in carpentry, electrical, HVAC, and welding.
- Gain experience in safe work practices within the construction industry.
- Prepare students for further education and training in specific trades.
- Build a strong foundation in math and employment skills.
Outline:
The Construction Techniques program is divided into four seven-week blocks, each focusing on a different trade:
- Block 1: Carpentry
- Introduction to carpentry tools and equipment
- Basic carpentry skills and techniques
- Building basic structures
- Reading and interpreting construction drawings
- Block 2: Electrical
- Introduction to electrical safety and regulations
- Basic electrical theory and principles
- Wiring techniques and practices
- Installation of electrical components
- Block 3: HVAC
- Introduction to HVAC systems and components
- Basic principles of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning
- Installation and maintenance of HVAC systems
- Troubleshooting common HVAC problems
- Block 4: Welding
- Introduction to welding safety and equipment

- Welding different types of materials
- Fabrication and repair of welded structures
Assessment:
