This program focuses on developing a solid foundation in woodworking for furniture, cabinets, and architectural millwork. You will gain expertise in modern manufacturing and learn to operate industry-standard machinery and equipment. During the first year, you'll focus on woodworking fundamentals like setting up and operating machines, laminating, veneering, machining, sanding, assembly, and finishing.
• You may be exempt from apprenticeship training if you choose to pursue a Cabinetmaker Apprenticeship.
• You will train at one of the most advanced woodworking training facilities in North America.

Outline:

The Woodworking Technician program has three semesters per year: Fall, Winter, and Spring.

Fall 2024:

• WODN1001 - Intro to Woodworking Machinery focuses on woodworking machinery basics, safety protocols, and hands-on operation of various equipment.
• WODN1002 - Woodworking Technology I delves into advanced techniques in woodworking like lumber processing, veneering, laminating, and assembly techniques.
• WODN1224 - Communication Skills for Trades helps you develop effective communication and collaboration skills relevant to the woodworking industry.

Winter 2025:

• WODN1005 - Woodworking Technology II continues with more advanced woodworking techniques like sanding, finishing, and machine maintenance.
• WODN1007 - Architectural Millwork introduces architectural woodworking, including door and window fabrication, molding techniques, and related projects.
• WODN1205 - Occupational Health & Safety for the Woodworking Industry emphasizes workplace safety regulations, hazard identification, and risk assessment in the woodworking field.

Spring 2025:

• WODN2006 - Advanced Woodworking Technology covers complex joinery, construction, and finishing techniques, focusing on precision and efficiency.
• WODN2008 - Woodworking Project Development I involves project planning, cost estimations, material selection, and prototype development for woodworking projects.
• WODN2004 - Design for Woodworkers III focuses on freehand sketching, rendering techniques, and 3D modeling relevant to woodworking design.
• WODN2003 - Introduction to Business for the Woodworker provides foundational knowledge in business fundamentals, marketing, and entrepreneurship in the context of the woodworking industry.
