Program Overview
The New Zealand Certificate in Land Based Sustainability Practices (Level 3) is a 12-week full-time or up to two years part-time program that teaches students the skills and knowledge needed to actively contribute to the environmentally sustainable performance of a land based industry in Agriculture or Horticulture. This program will provide a base for learners to progress to more advanced studies in land based sustainable practices.

Entry Requirements:
The entry requirements for the New Zealand Certificate in Land Based Sustainability Practices (Level 3) will vary depending on whether you are a domestic student or an international student.
For domestic students:
- School Leavers: You must be at least 16 years old and have attained NCEA Level 2 with the following minimum requirements:
- 60 credits at Level 2 or above, plus 20 credits from any level
- Literacy: minimum of 10 credits at Level 1 or above through specified assessment standards available through a range of subjects and English for Academic Purposes, unit standards 22750 and 22751 (minimum total of 10 credits), or unit standards - package of three literacy unit standards (26622, 26624, 26625 - all three required)
- Numeracy: a minimum of 10 credits at Level 1 or above through either achievement standards - specified assessment standards available through a range of subjects (minimum total of 10 credits), or unit standards - package of three numeracy unit standards (26623, 26626, 26627 - all three required)
- Mature Applicants: Applicants over 20 years of age at the time of enrollment will be considered if they can demonstrate the ability to succeed in the program. Examples include evidence of successful completion of a program of study at Level 2 or above, and/or employment in the related sector for one or more years. Admission may be granted subject to program regulations approved by the Head of Faculty in consultation with the Programme Manager. Personal commitment and a belief in one's own ability to succeed are also considered during the selection process.
For international students:
- English Language Requirements: Applicants whose first language is not English, or who come from a country where the language of instruction in schools is not English, are required to provide evidence of achieving one of the following:
- NCEA Level 3 with University Entrance
- International Baccalaureate Diploma or Cambridge A-level qualification
- Cambridge Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (CELTA)
- Trinity College London Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (CertTESOL)
- Successful completion of all primary education (equivalent to New Zealand primary school years 1 to 8) and at least three years of secondary education (equivalent to three years from New Zealand secondary school years 9 to 13) in schools using English as the language of instruction in one of the approved countries (including New Zealand, Australia, Canada, etc.)
- Successful completion of at least five years of secondary education (equivalent to New Zealand secondary school years 9 to 13) in schools using English as the language of instruction in one of the approved countries
- Successful completion of a Bachelor's Degree, Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma, Bachelor Honours degree, Postgraduate Certificate, Postgraduate Diploma, Masters' Degree, or Doctoral Degree from a tertiary education provider in New Zealand, Australia, Canada, etc., where the language of instruction is English
- Completion of an internationally recognized English proficiency test with the required score. Examples include IELTS, TOEFL, Cambridge English Examination, OET, NZCEL, Pearson Test of English (Academic), Language Cert, or Trinity ISE.
Language Proficiency Requirements:
The language of instruction for the New Zealand Certificate in Land Based Sustainability Practices (Level 3) is English. all applicants are required to demonstrate a certain level of proficiency in English.
