Course Content:
- SE55123 Strength Conditioning and Industry Placement: Focuses on exercise prescription, goal setting, movement analysis, and programming variation for strength conditioning in health and performance contexts. Students gain practical experience through strength conditioning program participation, enabling them to prescribe safe exercise programs for diverse individuals. An industry placement in a fitness center provides insights into personal training and facility/human resource management.
- SE6248 Clinical Exercise Physiology: Provides knowledge, skills, and understanding of the physiological basis of training for performance and health. Explores the physiological basis of training by evaluating and applying scientific research to training theory. Students learn to assess various fitness parameters to evaluate fitness and design effective training protocols.
- SE6241 Fitness Assessment and Programming: Equips students with the knowledge and skills to perform effective lifestyle assessments and design physical activity programs for the general population. Covers aspects of behavior change and exercise adherence. Enables students to grasp the economic issues central to an organization's activity and decision-making. Students gain the knowledge and understanding necessary to assess services, budgets, promotion and sponsorship options, and make marketing mix recommendations for specific markets.
- SE7331 Applied Sport and Leisure Management: Examines event and human resource management, and planning and execution of specific projects or events. Develops knowledge of the New Zealand industrial relations system and applies public relations and management theory to the sport/leisure environment. Utilizes the 'case study' system to apply theory to practical aspects of leisure management and promotion.
- SE7341 Applied Sport Science: Extends students' knowledge in sports performance, conditioning, and testing. Students gain practical experience by training athletes and undertaking investigative studies in sport science. Presents seminars to peers on selected topics of interest in this field, ensuring critical analysis, debate, and discussion of current material.
- SE7342 Exercise and Nutrition as Therapy: Investigates current issues of exercise management and nutrition as therapy for health.
- SE7344 Applied Pedagogy in Sport and Physical Education: Examines good teaching practice and its application to sports coaching and teaching physical education in schools. Analyzes teaching methods and critically examines evidenced-based research in pedagogy. Introduces the New Zealand Physical Education / Health curriculum and links unit/lesson plans development. Students develop skills through practical fieldwork, analysis, observation, planning, reflection, and peer teaching/coaching.
