This MSc program in Building Information Modelling (BIM) and construction technologies equips students with the latest innovations and skills in digital construction, including industry 4.0 frameworks. It aims to provide you with the latest innovations, technologies, and workflows in construction and BIM, including industry 4.0 digitalisation frameworks.


Objectives:

  • Equip students with technical and operational capabilities required for high-quality digital work production as design authors and team coordinators.
  • Develop interdisciplinary, hands-on technology and digital-specific skills.
  • Achieve skillsets for the four pillars of construction innovation: disruption, growth, maturity, and consolidation.
  • Implement solutions to address the UN 17 sustainable development goals.

Program Content:

  • Hands-on technical and operational skillsets in contemporary Innovative Digital Delivery and construction technologies.
  • Develops research and management skills in standard and unpredictable construction scenarios.

Structure:

  • 8 modules.
  • 1 year full-time, 2 years part-time.

Optional Exit Point:

  • BIM Principles for New Practice and Heritage: Explores the use of BIM for both new builds and renovation/maintenance of heritage buildings.
  • Techno-preneurship and Lean Construction: Develops entrepreneurial and lean management skills for the construction industry.
  • Construction Law and Finance: Covers legal aspects of construction projects, financial management, and cost estimation.
  • Visual Programming and Data Analytics: Develops skills in coding, scripting, and data analytics for optimizing construction workflows.
  • Integrated Project Management and Planning: Covers project management strategies and planning across the lifecycle of a project.
  • Research Project: Applies knowledge and skills gained throughout the program to a specific BIM-related project.

Assessment:

  • Individual and group coursework including journals, live projects, and case-study reports.
  • All modules will be assessed by university staff and 10 different industry experts.
  • Students will receive regular feedback on their learning and have opportunities for self-reflection and peer assessment.

Teaching:

  • Online distance learning program.
  • 2-hour interactive webinars each week for each module.
  • 4 modules per term in full-time and 2 modules per term in part-time mode.
  • All materials are recorded and uploaded on the university e-learning system.
  • Continuous assessment feedback and support provided by industry experts through the Construction Cloud and live webinars.

Careers:

  • Graduates can pursue careers as BIM coordinators, BIM engineers, digital engineers, technical designers, sustainability designers and coordinators, and more.
  • This MSc program is in the process of being accredited by CIOB, CIAT, and JBM.
