- Course Delivery: Online learning with an optional on-campus residential held within the Summer Term.
- Assessment: Primarily coursework-based, including essays, case study presentations, reflective thinking diaries, and online practical assessments.
- Dissertation: A compulsory dissertation allows students to demonstrate their research skills in a chosen area of high-performance sport management or practice-based study.
Compulsory Modules:
- Strength and Conditioning Science (15 credits): Understanding the principles of strength and conditioning and applying them to improve athletic performance. Develop practical skills in exercise performance and program design for athletes.
- Theory of Sport and Exercise Nutrition (15 credits): Understanding the principles of nutrition and their relation to athletic performance. Develop knowledge of macro and micronutrients, energy balance, and hydration strategies for athletes. Understand the role of nutrition in recovery, injury prevention, and immune function.
- Diagnostics in Sport Performance (15 credits): Understand the principles and methods of sport performance diagnostics. Develop knowledge of the latest techniques for assessing and measuring physical fitness, movement patterns, and sport-specific skills.
- Performance Analysis (15 credits): Understand the principles and methods of sport performance analysis. Develop knowledge of the latest techniques for assessing and measuring physical fitness, movement patterns, and sport-specific skills.
- Applied Psychology (15 credits): Understand the psychological factors that influence athletic performance and how to apply this knowledge to improve performance. - Research Methods (30 credits): Understanding the principles of research design and methodology. Develop skills in quantitative and qualitative research methods. Apply research skills to evaluate and improve sports performance and business operations.
- Research-based Dissertation (30 credits): Developing a deep understanding of a specific area of high-performance sport management through either practice-based or research-based study. Conduct independent research or practice-based work to investigate a specific research question or practical problem in the field. Demonstrate advanced research and critical thinking skills in the production of a high-quality dissertation or practice-based project.
- Practice-based Dissertation (60 credits): The aim is to provide students with a learning experience in planning, implementing, and evaluating a specific sport and/or exercise science project within a relevant setting. The purpose is to provide a personal development opportunity within the applied sport setting, with access to support and training mechanisms leading to, but not including, external qualifications in areas such as sport and exercise science (BASES); strength and conditioning (UKSCA); and sport and exercise nutrition (SEN). These processes enable reflective practice.
