: Theory Concentration - Entry Requirements


Entry Requirements:

  • Music Theory Admission Audition: Successful completion of the Music Theory Admission Audition is required for all students applying to the Music, B.M.
  • : Theory Concentration. This audition assesses your musical skills and aptitude for theoretical studies.
  • High School Coursework: You must have successfully completed the following high school courses:
  • English: 4 units
  • Mathematics: 3 units (including Algebra I and Geometry)
  • Social Studies: 3 units
  • Science: 3 units (including one laboratory course)
  • Foreign Language: 2 units (in the same language)
  • Fine Arts: 1 unit (in music, art, theatre, or dance)
  • Electives: 3 units
  • Minimum GPA: Minimum high school GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) or equivalent.
  • Standardized Test Scores: ACT or SAT scores are required for all applicants.
  • Students with a high school GPA of 3.5 or higher may submit either ACT or SAT scores. Students with a high school GPA below 3.5 must submit both ACT and SAT scores.

International Students:

In addition to the above requirements, international students must also meet the following criteria:

  • English Language Proficiency: Demonstrated proficiency in English through one of the following:
  • TOEFL score of 80 or higher (internet-based test)
  • IELTS score of 6.5 or higher
  • Completion of a university-level English language program with a satisfactory grade
