This full syllabus Japanese Advanced (Year 6) course is designed to help you achieve fluency in the Japanese language and reach an advanced level of communication, preparing you for the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test N1 which is the requirement to enter Japanese universities. The course is taught entirely in Japanese and follows the full Year 6 syllabus, making it ideal for individuals who have completed the Japanese Upper Intermediate (Year 5) level or have a strong JLPT N2 level and want to further develop their knowledge and skills.

Entry Requirements


EU home students:

  • You will need to have completed a good undergraduate degree in a relevant subject with at least a lower second class honours.
  • If you have completed an undergraduate degree in a non-related subject, you may still be eligible for entry if you can demonstrate significant experience or relevant skills.
  • You may also be required to pass an admissions test, depending on your qualifications and experience.
  • You will also need to demonstrate proficiency in the English language, with an IELTS score of at least 6.5 overall, with a minimum of 6.0 in each component.

Overseas students:

  • If you are an international student, you must have completed an equivalent qualification to a good UK undergraduate degree in a relevant subject.
  • You will also need a good English language qualification.
  • An overall IELTS score of 7.0 with a minimum of 6.5 in all components.

Language Proficiency Requirements:

  • International applicants whose first language is not English will need to demonstrate their English language proficiency.
  • This can be done by achieving an IELTS score of 6.5 or higher, with no individual band below 6.
  • Alternative English Language qualifications may be accepted.
  • If your first language is English, you will still be required to achieve a score of 5 or higher in the English GCSE.
