Program Overview


The English as a Second Language Pre-Academic Program at St. Lawrence College prepares international students for further academic studies in Canada by enhancing their English language skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing. The program offers three levels of instruction, from Pre-Intermediate to Advanced, and includes modules in language lab tutorials, reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Graduates receive a Statement of Achievement that meets the English language requirements for most college programs at St. Lawrence College.

Program Description:

The program consists of three levels: Pre-Intermediate, Intermediate, and Advanced.

  • Pre-Intermediate Level: Focuses on developing basic English language skills in all four areas.
  • Intermediate Level: Builds upon the skills learned at the Pre-Intermediate level and introduces more complex grammar and vocabulary.
  • Advanced Level: Prepares students for academic studies by focusing on reading and writing skills, critical thinking, and research skills.
  • Students also have the opportunity to take credit courses of their choice in consultation with an academic advisor.
