Program Overview


The BA (Hons) Special Educational Needs, Disability and Inclusion with Foundation Year prepares students for careers in education and other sectors by developing their knowledge and skills in inclusive practice, disability, and special educational needs. The program includes a foundation year for those new to the field and offers optional modules for tailoring studies to individual interests. Students will benefit from a variety of assessment methods and teaching approaches, including lectures, seminars, and practical application of skills.

BA (Hons) Special Educational Needs, Disability and Inclusion with Foundation Year

The BA (Hons) Special Educational Needs, Disability and Inclusion Studies with Foundation Year is designed to help you develop the skills, knowledge, and confidence to succeed in your studies with the University of Wolverhampton at degree level.


Objectives:

  • Develop your knowledge and skills of special educational needs theory, disability, and inclusive practice.
  • Be able to identify and understand the challenges faced when trying to adopt an inclusive approach to all aspects of life.
  • Learn how to meet and address these challenges in a positive way as members of a diverse global society.
  • Reflect on your own value systems, development and inclusive practices, question concepts and theories you have encountered in your studies and interrogate the assumptions underpinning research and your own practice.

Outline:


Foundation Year

The Foundation year, available only on the Walsall campus, prepares you for studying at undergraduate level by teaching you the skills and knowledge you will need to succeed. At Level 3, you will learn your underpinning knowledge of studying in higher education and the principles of inclusion.


Years 1 - 3

The course content is designed to equip you with a foundation in inclusion and special education, critical thinking skills, the ability to work both independently and collaboratively, and an understanding of policy and its application.

Assessment:

This program will consist of a variety of assessments including presentations, written assessments, reflective journals, report writing, peer mentoring, written plans, assignments, group projects, and practical application of skills.


Teaching:

This program is delivered through a combination of lectures, seminars, tutorials, and independent study, taught by a team of experienced professionals who have both academic qualifications and practical experience in a range of settings.

Location:

The degree is offered with the Foundation Year on the Walsall Campus only. The full degree can be studied part-time (evenings).


Learning resources:

The University provides access to the Skills for Learning program, offering academic skills support via workshops and individual appointments.


Fees:

Full-time: £9,250 per year Part-time: £3,120 per year for the Foundation Year, £4,625 per year for other years


Scholarships:

Tuition Fees and Payment Information:

  • Home: £9250 per year
  • International: £13450 per year

Additional Course Costs:

  • Enhanced DBS is required after your first year, at a minimum cost of £40.
  • The cost of the DBS is determined by the Government and further information can be found here - GOV.UK / Disclosure and Barring Service.

Payment:

  • Tuition Fees Loan (Home Fee Status): Most students will be able to apply for a loans to pay for these subject to eligibility.
