Degree Overview:

The Petroleum Engineering MSc program, designed and delivered by industry experts, equips students with the knowledge and skills required for a comprehensive study and evaluation of a prospect, leading to a viable oil and gas field development plan. The program offers January and September start dates. eligible self-funded international students receive the Aberdeen Global Scholarship.


Objectives:

  • Develop the skills to appraise and select the appropriate technologies for safe production recovery of hydrocarbon oil and gas.
  • Gain hands-on experience of using industry-standard simulation software in all aspects of petroleum engineering.
  • Benefit from industry exposure in the heart of Aberdeen, Europe's energy capital.
  • Gain a unique advantage with strong industry links and guest lectures from energy sector experts.
  • Fundamentals of Petroleum Geoscience: This course explores geological and geophysical aspects of prospect evaluation, emphasizing uncertainty and risk management during exploration.

Semester 2:

  • MSc Individual Project: This independent research project allows students to delve into a specific area of the industry and demonstrate their problem-solving skills.
  • Enhanced Oil Recovery: This course explores methods and processes for maximizing oil and gas production from depleted reservoirs.
  • Well Testing: Analysis and Design: This course equips students with the knowledge and tools to analyze and interpret well testing data for reservoir characterization and field development.

Assessment:

Assessment methods include end-of-course written examinations and continuous assessment. Students are expected to pass all examinations and project submissions. MSc students must also submit and defend a dissertation on their individual project.
