Program Overview
Delivered through lectures, discussions, and exercises, it covers topics such as information sources, evaluation, and presentation. The course is assessed through coursework and a viva, and can be taken as a standalone module or towards a postgraduate qualification in Information Management.
Program Outline
- Theoretical foundations: Personal and social epistemology, testimony, credibility and persuasion. Cognition and cognitive biases.
- Using Information literacy skills: Keywords and search strategies
- Reading and recording, organising, using and presenting information
- the reflective practitioner.
- Digital literacy: Use of digital tools to undertake academic research, writing and critical thinking; digital professionalism; the use of specialist digital tools and data sets; communicating ideas effectively in a range of media; collaborating in virtual networks; using digital technologies to support reflection and PDP; managing digital reputation and showcasing achievements.
Structure:
- Delivered through weekly lectures, discussions, and exercises/case studies.
- The teaching material is available online on Blackboard.
- Essential readings are indicated in advance of each session.
Schedule:
- Twelve sessions, scheduled over fourteen weeks.

Assessment:
- Assessed by a written piece of coursework and a short related viva (one-to-one interview).

Teaching:
- Delivered by Virginia Power, the Programme Leader.
- 2 hours direct contact time per week.
- Essential readings are provided online.
- Students are expected to engage in online learning through the VLE and discussion groups.

- This module can be taken as a standalone module or used to build credit towards a postgraduate qualification in Information Management.

Entry Requirements
For UK and EU students:
- First Degree: A first degree at 2.2 level or above (or equivalent).
- Relevant Experience: Alternatively, six months of relevant industrial experience.
