Program Overview
This course at UWE Bristol explores urban greening as a process for increasing vegetation in urban areas through green infrastructure. It covers planning, design, and delivery of green infrastructure elements, with a focus on environmental quality, health and wellbeing, and climate change adaptation. The course includes face-to-face teaching, exercises, and workshops, and is assessed through a written report on green infrastructure critique and enhancement proposals.

- Definitions of key terms like green and blue infrastructure, natural capital, ecosystem services, and nature-based solutions.
- Benefits of urban greening in terms of environmental quality, health and wellbeing, and adaptation to climate change.
- Evidence from different disciplinary traditions related to urban greening.
- Planning of green infrastructure at different spatial scales.
- Design of green infrastructure elements in new and existing places.
- Delivery and long-term maintenance of green infrastructure elements.
Structure:
- The course comprises five study days of face-to-face teaching spread over 11 weeks.
- These sessions include lectures, tutorials, exercises, and workshops.
- Learning materials and lecture recordings are accessible through VLEs.
Modules:
This course consists of one module focusing on "Urban Greening: Planning, Design and Delivery."
Assessment:
- The module assessment involves a written report split into two tasks:
- An evidence-based critique of the green infrastructure in a chosen neighborhood.
- A proposal outlining enhancements to the green infrastructure.
Teaching:
- Five days of face-to-face teaching delivered by experts in the field.
- A variety of teaching formats including lectures, tutorials, exercises, and workshops.

Other:
- Participants are expected to have a first degree at 2.2 level or above (or equivalent) or industrial experience.
