Managing Maternal Critical Care - Professional/Short course

This program equips midwives with advanced knowledge and skills in maternal critical care, covering topics such as professional practice, anatomy, and human factors in clinical decision-making. Through a combination of online and blended learning, students develop expertise in managing maternal critical care in various settings, preparing them for leadership roles and further studies in the field.

The program allows you to study the modules at either Level 6 (BSc level) or Level 7 (Masters level) depending on your academic background and career goals.

Outline:

This course consists of two modules, each worth 20 credits:

• Level 6 (UZURXY-20-3): Managing Maternal Critical Care
• Level 7 (UZURY3-20-M): Managing Maternal Critical Care
The modules cover a comprehensive range of topics:

Level 6:

• Professional and ethical practice
• Managing and prioritizing maternal critical care
• The law and ethics in complex situations
• Anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology
• Identifying occult signs
• High dependency maternal care
• Identifying rapidly changing clinical conditions
• Key transferable and clinical skills
• Clinical reasoning
• Human factors and their impact
• Management of self and others

Level 7:

• Critical need, planning, implementing, and evaluating maternal critical care
• Applying human factors to clinical decision making
• Advanced knowledge and skills for high dependency care in the labor ward
• Function and work of the multi-disciplinary team
• Midwifery leadership
• Legal, ethical, social, and cultural issues
• Self-directed clinical leadership in complex situations

Assessment:

The assessment method for both Level 6 and Level 7 modules is an oral examination lasting 20 minutes.
