Program Overview
Illinois Tech's Master of Engineering in Materials Science and Engineering program empowers students to enhance their technical versatility and pursue career path changes. Through coursework, students gain expertise in materials' structure and performance, including semiconductors, nanotechnology, and biomaterials. Graduates are prepared for careers as materials science engineers, metallic materials application engineers, and metallurgists. The program is STEM designated, providing advantages for international students and meeting F-1 Visa requirements.
Program Outline
Students can develop a program that aligns with their professional goals and interests in consultation with an advisor from the Department of Mechanical, Materials, and Aerospace Engineering. The program provides students with the knowledge and skills to develop and improve materials that impact everyday life. Students study the connections between materials' structure and performance, including semiconductors, nanotechnology, and biomaterials. They also learn how newly engineered materials can advance the future of technology.

Graduates of the Master of Engineering in Materials Science and Engineering program are prepared for careers as:

- The program is STEM designated, providing advantages for international students.

- While some of the program can be completed online, some required courses involve on-campus examinations, preventing the program from being fully available online.
Entry Requirements:
Domestic Students (UK, EU, and Channel Islands):
- A good honours degree (1st or 2:1 classification) in dental technology from a UK higher education institution, or an equivalent qualification from an overseas institution.
Exceptions:
- Applicants with alternative qualifications who are supported by industry experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
International Students (Outside the EU):
- A good honours degree (1st or 2:1 classification) in dental technology from a UK higher education institution, or an equivalent qualification from an overseas institution.
- Evidence of English language proficiency, typically an IELTS score of 6.5 overall with at least 6.0 in all elements, or an equivalent qualification.
- Applicants may be required to provide additional information about their industry experience or other relevant qualifications.
