Admission Requirements

Entry Requirements:


EU Home Students:

  • For the PG Diploma in Dietetics:
  • An honours degree (1st class or 2:1) in human nutrition, or a degree that includes nutrition in the awards title, with sufficient emphasis on physiology and biochemistry (40 credits in total required, with at least 20 credits in human physiology and 20 credits in human biochemistry).
  • Completion of the undergraduate degree not more than five years before proposed entry to the PG Diploma.
  • Recommended: 10 credits in sociology and 10 credits in psychology.
  • Strongly advised: Gaining experience within a relevant setting due to the high volume of applications.
  • This could include working as a Dietetic Support Worker, volunteering/working within a dietetic department, volunteering for related charities, or working as a Healthcare Assistant.
  • For the MSc Dietetics:
  • A PgDip in Dietetics qualification and current registration with the HCPC.

International Overseas Students (Outside the EU):

Due to the nature of the program, Cardiff Met is unable to consider international applicants. Applicants from the Republic of Ireland are considered as Home applicants for fee purposes.


Language Proficiency Requirements:


International Students:

  • Applicants who speak English as a second language must have an adequate command of English, with an IELTS score of 7, with at least 6.5 in all elements.
  • Both the PG Diploma and MSc Dietetics degrees are approved by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and accredited by the British Dietetic Association.
  • The course content is aligned with the BSc (Hons) Human Nutrition and Dietetics program and includes three periods of practical training on placements within the NHS.
  • The taught element of the program involves lectures, tutorials, and practical work.
  • All students undertake modules with practical elements delivered in kitchens and food production areas.
  • Assessment methods include examinations, coursework, assignments, practical work, work-based placements, presentations, and all Level 7 modules are double marked and externally assessed.
  • The clinical training placements must be successfully completed to proceed and graduate.
