Admission Requirements

Entry Requirements:


For International Students:

  • Students must contact Ara for a full outline of requirements before applying.

For Domestic Students:

  • A New Zealand National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA) Level 1 or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 32 credits at NCEA Level 2, including:
  • 12 credits in English
  • 8 credits in Mathematics
  • 4 credits in Science
  • 8 credits in other subjects.

General Entry Requirements:

  • Students should be interested in a career in barbering and have a passion for the industry.
  • Students should be able to demonstrate good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Students should be able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ara accepts a variety of English language tests, including IELTS, TOEFL, and PTE Academic.
  • For the IELTS test, you will need to achieve a minimum overall score of 6.0 with no band score lower than 5.5.
  • For the TOEFL test, you will need to achieve a minimum score of 79 on the internet-based test (iBT).
  • For the PTE Academic test, you will need to achieve a minimum score of 58.
