Academic Requirements:

  • NZ3097 New Zealand Certificate in Automotive Engineering (Level 3): Completion of this qualification or equivalent is required.
  • Alternative entry: Applicants who can't meet the academic requirements may be considered based on their acquired skills gained through work experience, life experience, or formal study.
  • This may include Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).

Additional Requirements:

  • Employed apprenticeship: You must be employed as a managed apprentice in a light automotive engineering workshop operating at a commercially acceptable industry standard.
  • Training agreement: A 3-way training agreement must be signed between the candidate, employer, and Ara Institute of Canterbury.
  • Specific scores: You need to achieve an overall score of 5.5 on the IELTS Academic test, with a minimum of 5.0 in each band (Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking).
  • This program is part-time and can be completed in up to 5 years.
