This industry-focused music program provides students with the skills and knowledge to succeed in various areas of the modern music industry. Through a flexible curriculum, students can tailor their learning to their interests and career aspirations, utilizing world-class facilities and industry connections. The program emphasizes employability, preparing graduates for roles in music production, sound recording, composition, and more.

Program Outline

You will use your existing skills, as well as the world-class facilities and expertise available at Staffordshire University, to put together a showcase of your work underpinned by established research techniques and methodologies.

  • Career Development For The Music Professional (40 credits): This module will give you the tools you need to promote yourself in the music industry.
  • You will also develop your entrepreneurship in order to maximize your employability. You will learn through a mix of lectures, tutorials and student-led sessions. You will cover topics such as studio techniques, mixing and mastering, electronic music production, electronics, acoustics, studio design, composition, performance, and creative software design.
  • Modern Musicianship Two (40 credits): You will use our world-class facilities and expertise to focus in on a music industry topic related to your interests.
  • Your topic could be related to music production, music technology, composition and performance or the music business. You will also be given the skills you need to carry out research on a music-related topic at a postgraduate level.

Assessment:

Assessment will be through a variety of methods, including:

  • Portfolio materials
  • Written reports
  • Presentations
  • Reflective journals and blogs
  • Interviews
  • Group work for collaborative projects
  • Although most assessments will involve practice-based portfolio materials, the program can also accommodate students taking more theoretical, traditionally academic routes.
