Core Courses (24 credits required):

  • Students can choose from a variety of courses to fulfill the 24-credit requirement.
  • Students may take up to 6 credits from the JD curriculum with approval from the Director of the LLM program.
  • A maximum of 6 Advanced Standing credits may be granted for prior coursework.
  • Students can choose to specialize in one of the four designated areas:
  • Biotechnology and Health Law
  • International Law and Business
  • US Law and Legal Methods
  • To earn a specialization, students must complete 5 courses listed for the specialization and file the appropriate form with the Law Registrar.

Teaching:

Entry Requirements:


For graduates of US Law Schools

  • Applicants must possess a Juris Doctor (JD) degree from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association (ABA).
  • Applicants must demonstrate academic excellence during their JD studies.

For graduates of non-US Law Schools

  • Applicants must hold a law degree with high academic standing from a duly-accredited foreign university.
  • Applicants must demonstrate sufficient English language proficiency to undertake and complete their coursework.

Important note for graduates of non-US Law Schools:

  • Those graduating with an LL.M.
  • in Global Law and Technology may obtain a "titulo" from Universidad Panamericana, Guadalajara upon passing an oral exam and fulfilling petition requirements. Graduates from other Mexican law schools may inquire about this alternative means of becoming an "abogado".

Language Proficiency Requirements:


For Non-English speaking Applicants:

  • Must score at least 600 (paper-based), 250 (computer-based) or 100 (internet-based) on the TOEFL.
  • Applicants may need and benefit from additional English language instruction before being admitted.
  • Admission may be granted conditionally for students to complete an English language course before re-evaluation of their proficiency.

Additional considerations for applicants:

  • The review process for fall admission starts in November and continues through the spring semester.
  • For spring admission, review begins in March and continues throughout the fall.
  • Early completion of the process is advantageous.
  • Interviews aren't required but may be requested by the Chair of the Graduate Law Admissions Committee.
