Program Overview


This online program offers five pathways in healthcare and social care, including continence care, developing practice, neuroscience care, stoma care, urology care, and paramedic studies. Students choose two modules from their pathway in year 1 and two compulsory core modules in year 2. Outline:

This program is delivered entirely online, making it possible for students to study wherever and whenever it suits them. There is a strong emphasis on interactive online learning, with frequent communication between staff and students. Students will enter the program with 240 credits already acquired at levels 4 and 5. The program itself takes a minimum of two years to complete on a part-time basis. Students have the option to choose from five different pathways:

  • Continence Care Pathway
  • Developing Practice Pathway
  • Neuroscience Care Pathway
  • Stoma Care Pathway
  • Urology Care Pathway
  • Paramedic Studies Pathway

Modules:


Year 1

Students choose two modules from their selected pathway option in year 1.


Developing Practice Pathway:

  • Effective and Compassionate Communication in Health and Social Care Practice: This module equips students with the necessary knowledge and skills to deliver compassionate, professional communication in healthcare settings.
  • Fostering Innovation in Practice: Students learn to identify and implement innovative changes in their own practice, fostering better care delivery.

Neuroscience Care Pathway:

  • Principles and Practice of Neuroscience Care: This module prepares students to meet the unique needs of individuals with neurological disorders.
  • Advancing Care for People with Stoma: Students explore advanced topics in stoma care, including issues faced by specific populations and ethical considerations.

Urology Care Pathway:

  • The Fundamentals of Urology: This module equips students with essential knowledge related to the field of urology, enabling them to deliver high-quality care to patients with urological disorders.

Paramedic Studies Pathway:

  • Applied Human Biology and Pharmacology for Pre-Hospital Care: This module expands students' understanding of physiology, pathophysiology, pharmacology, and psychology in the pre-hospital setting.

Year 2


Compulsory Core Modules:

  • The Research Project: Students develop the ability to retrieve and utilize research evidence, culminating in a systematic review on a self-chosen topic related to health and social care.
  • Global Perspectives in Transforming Health: Students gain knowledge of global healthcare issues impacting health and social care practice, enabling them to develop evidence-based strategies for improved patient care.
