Program Overview


The PGCE Home Economics with Food & Nutrition & Nutrition & Food Science program is a one-year, full-time program that prepares students for a career in teaching these subjects at the post-primary level in Northern Ireland. The program includes 24 weeks of school-based placements and utilizes a variety of teaching methods. Graduates are prepared for careers in a variety of educational settings, including schools, further education colleges, and community organizations.

  • Home Economics with Food & Nutrition & Nutrition and Food Science
  • The modules included in the course are:
  • School Experience 1
  • (focusing on acquiring basic teaching skills)
  • School Experience 2
  • (further development of teaching skills and demonstration of competence)
  • Improving Practice in Religious Education
  • (optional, further developing competency in teaching RE at Key Stage 3)
  • The program includes 24 weeks of school-based placements, including one week in a primary school and two 11-12 week placements in post-primary schools.
