This short course provides participants with a foundational understanding of tourism and hospitality principles, structures, and their practical application in destination regions. Outline
The program comprises three themes delivered over three full days (October 11th, 12th, and 13th) and three additional half-day learning sets (October 18th, 25th, or November 1st).
Theme 1 (Day 1): Setting the Scene
- Introduction to tourism and hospitality
- Historical overview of their development
- Introduction to key concepts and principles for both sectors
Theme 2 (Day 2): The Hospitality and Tourism Sector
- The roles of various components (attractions, accommodation, intermediaries, etc.)
- Examination of travel and consumer behavior within the context of tourism and hospitality
- The role of these sectors within the experience economy
Theme 3 (Day 3): Tourism and Hospitality Within Destinations and Change Over Time
- The primacy of destinations for tourism, including impact considerations
- Importance of localism and culture for both sectors

Assessment
The program uses a 100% coursework assessment structure, comprising:
- Essay (50%): Critical evaluation of key principles for either hospitality or tourism in a 2050 future scenario.
- Presentation (50%): Focus on either hospitality or tourism, illustrating change over time in a chosen destination.

Students choosing a period of paid work placement or study abroad as a part of their course should be aware that there may be additional travel and living costs, as well as tuition fees.
Entry Requirements:
All Applicants:
- Any undergraduate degree.
English Language Requirements:
- Applicants whose first language is not English must meet the minimum English entrance requirements of the University and will need to provide recent evidence of this (certified within the last two years).
- Most courses require a minimum English level of IELTS 6.0 or equivalent, with no band score under 5.5. Trinity ISE: Pass at level III also meets this requirement.
International Applicants:
- In addition to the above requirements, international applicants will also require a short-term study visa.
