- The Environmental Toxicology and Pollution Monitoring PgDip/MSc is the only one of its kind in the United Kingdom.
- Established in 1999, with over 200 successful graduates, the course boasts over 30 years of experience teaching Environmental Toxicology and 19 years of experience in online distance learning.
- The program explores pollution sources, risks to humans and the environment, and various management approaches. >* The mechanisms of toxicity. >* Setting environmental quality standards. >* Contaminant behavior in water, air, and soil. >* Legislative control of contaminants. >* Using techniques such as Geographic Information Systems to analyze large datasets.
- Most students who enroll are already working in the environmental field.
- The course aims to provide flexibility with the topics studied, allowing you to focus on areas of particular interest to you or your employer.
- Students may choose to study for individual modules, a Postgraduate Diploma, or a Master's degree, as their circumstances dictate.
- The program is split into modules that comprise 30 credit points each. One module is taught per semester (late September to early January and late January to early May).
- The PgDip comprises four taught modules (totaling 120 credits). It takes two academic years to complete the award.
- To obtain the MSc, an additional research project module (60 credits) needs to be completed over two additional semesters, bringing the total credits to 180. This leads to the award of Master of Science (MSc).
- The full PgDip/MSc program normally takes three years of part-time study (6 semesters).
Assessment:
- Assessment is entirely by coursework with no formal university exams.
- The assessment methods include practical reports, projects, literature reviews, essays, class tests, group work, and a research project.
