Program Overview
The Conflict Analysis Short Course at Ulster University provides an in-depth exploration of conflict dynamics, intervention strategies, and case studies. Through coursework and an individual research project, participants gain knowledge and skills for careers in peacebuilding, international development, and conflict resolution. The course runs for one semester, starting September 26th, 2023, and is taught by experienced faculty in an interactive learning environment.

This short course delves into the complexities of conflict, introducing participants to the various stages of the conflict cycle and exploring key intervention strategies used to resolve and transform violent conflict. Topics covered include:
- Causes of violent conflict
- Structure and dynamics of conflict
- Peacekeeping
- Peacemaking
- Peacebuilding
- Module 3: Case Studies: This module delves into real-world examples of conflict resolution and transformation, allowing participants to analyze different strategies in practice.
- Module 5: Individual Research Project: This module culminates in an independent research project where participants apply their learnings to analyze a specific conflict of interest.
Assessment:
- 100% coursework: Participants are assessed on an individual research project in the form of a 3,500-word essay.

Computer suites and free Wi-Fi are also available on each of the campuses. Students choosing a period of paid work placement or study abroad as a part of their course should be aware that there may be additional travel and living costs, as well as tuition fees.
